Your DJ Said you can't pick songs ??? What????

I just got off the phone with a bride in tears because she booked a "large" dj company, or so she thought, based on experience etc etc etc.

She told me that her DJ would not let her pick songs and that she wanted to hire a dj from 1st Djs but she didn't have enough money. We asked her how much she spent on the deposit which was $250 so I discounted her wedding $250 good riddance bad dj.

1st Djs, as well as any other respectable dj company think: Elektra Entertainment, Creative Deejays Etc, will let you pick most if not all of your songs.

No one knows your audience better than you do. Is there a but? Well sort of but its not a big but,

Some DJ companies may restrict requests because believe me, if you've been doing this as long as we have, Elektra has and Creative has, than you've seen over 1000-2000 weddings in your lifetime, easily put, if you hire the right company with the right amount of experience, they actually know what they're doing. Are you going to ask to go in the kitchen and cook with the caterers?

Another myth... We (Djs) want your people to dance, it makes for a much more fun event. But about requests, the only thing we ask at 1st Djs is that you carefully consider your must plays vs your please plays, that you let us fill in the gaps and that you remember your ipod playlist designed to drive 50 miles in DC rush hour traffic, may not be Party music. Oh yeah and we don't really like the Cha-Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Electic Slide, etc but they get people going and lots of people actually enjoy the line dances... but thats for another blog post

A New Easy Trivia Interactive

This isn't anything revolutionizing but when Stacy Jake and I put it together it went off without a hitch. Stacy and Jake were married two weeks ago and during their wedding they didn't want a bouquet toss and they wanted a trivia game. The shoe game was too complicated so I came up with this.

I took 10 questions Stacy had prepared to ask the Men in the audience (all the men) and 10 questions that Jake had prepared to ask all the ladies.

A sample of Stacy's Questions:

What's my favorite pancake topping
What Else Am I usually doing while driving (her answer was singing)
I find $20 at the mall I go to Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body, Old Navy or Ritz Camera

So I took these 20 questions and I first did Stacy's I asked all the men in the audience and the person that got the most right won a dance with Stacy and out of the women the person with the most right one a dance with Jake. The young lady winner also took home the bouquet and the man winner (Jakes Uncle) got the garter.

Just some fun for thought
